So the last party of the week, turned out to be the best.
The Best Of Year, or BOY, Awards was double the fun for Harry Allen Design this year as we both designed the awards and were up for an award for Pipeline, our new seating system for Dune. Despite a huge effort to get the awards done in time, and a less than adequate finish job on the new orange base, the awards looked pretty good all lined up.
Cindy Allen was at it again as Mistress of Ceremonies, and the video wall in the IAC Building, designed by Frank Gehry, is amazing. I have to say it is a little nerve-wracking to wait for these academy-like awards to unfold. Winning would be great, but I hate the thought of losing. Cindy assured us that "we were all winners," but there seemed to be alot of losers. FYI, the awards are voted on through the Interior Design website, so a win is a design world vote of confidence.
AND ... PIPELINE WON BEST OF YEAR!
IN THE SEATING: CONTRACT/GUEST CATEGORY!
Richard Shemtov and I celebrate with our BOY award. Richie owns Dune, is a fine designer in his own right, and makes amazing products. His Rebel chair was up for an award in another category - Dune had a total of three nominations. I am very proud of our Pipeline collaboration.
I even shared a moment with Karim Rashid, who I don't always see eye to eye with aesthetically, but who is a very nice guy. He won two awards, and I actually like his new stainless tiles for Alloy very much.
